Often you want a functionality that you can’t get without hacking the Wordpress “Core”. In this situation you have a choice, don’t bother with the functionality or move on, or forever have to remember you have hacked the core when upgrading your installation! And with the Wordpress folks constantly rolling out upgrades you are required to edit each and every file you have edited after every upgrade! Therefore it is extremely important to document Wordpress “Core” Hacks. Not only does this mean you won’t forget any hacks you have made, but it makes upgrading a hell of a lot simpler! So for those of you out there who are thinking about hacking the “Core” go for it! Once you document everything really your grand!
Happy Hacking!

Donncha an Irish blogger has brought out an extensive modification of the famous WP-Cache-2 plugin called “Wordpress Super Cache”. The release article has been Dugg so I’m sure he is getting loads of testing done!
You can digg it here! The plugin can be downloaded here and read about here.

I heard about a brilliant wordpress plugin yesterday from a source that I have forgotten, I tend to bookmark links and just forget where I got them but anyway the plugin is: In-Series
In Series is a plugin that lets you write series of posts in WordPress, without having to deal with the hassle of manually writing up tables of contents or “next” and “previous” links in each post. It adds a new set of controls to the post editing screen, allowing you to add the post to a series (new or existing), re-order the post within a series it’s already in, or remove the post from a series entirely.
I decided it was worth a review so installed it on my blog only to find that I have done series! Bit of Blogger Brain loss right here! So its now setup on my two series, which I had forgotten about and will now be completing:

Buy Me A Beer - Powering the “If you liked this post, perhaps you’d like to buy me a coffee” PayPal link under this and every post! Hey, someone has to fund my coffee addiction. €2 per coffee! Got to love the Playwright!
Gravatars2 - The lovely pictures of people in the comments, I’m surprised more people don’t have a Gravatar. Get one here.
podPress - Powering the Wordpress side of the Podcast. Good I guess, has a lot of features I don’t use though!

Well I’m much happier now as I am once again writing this from Windows Writer, do I have to go edit tags now? Nope! You know why? Because Wordpress have released a Windows Live Manifest file so that Windows Live will recognise that your blog has tagging enabled! You can get this over here. All you have to do is:
- Download and extract files.
- Upload wlwmanifest.xml to /
- Upload \wp-includes\images to /wp-includes/images
- Close and open Windows Writer, then press Weblog, Edit Weblog Settings, Editing, Update Style
Presto! You have “Keywords” which are basically tags, press F2 to bring up the menu to insert Tags[keywords] publish your post, and your off in a hack!
Special thanks to Joe Cheng for being the first to point this out to me!

So it didn’t take me long to want to upgrade hey? Here’s a quick overview of what I did:
- Backed up my WordPress database.
- Backed up my theme and plugins.
- Downloaded version WordPress 2.3, get it here if your wondering.
- Deleted everything associated to WordPress apart from .htaccess, /images/ and wp-config.php
- Uploaded the files.
- Ran the Wordpress database upgrade.
- Database was fine, no issues.
- Spent about half an hour getting the new supported version of k2 back to normality.
- All plugins work fine, SocialBookmarkButtons, Feedburner Feedsmith, Live Post Preview, WWSGD, Wp-Mint, Subscribe to comments and Askimet
- Problems posting, just hundreds of errors, converting all categories to tags.
- Turns out Extended Live Archives were causing the problem. Problem sorted.
All in all, a perfect trouble free installation!
Other than that I added gravatar support! Removed Categories, everything is changed to tags now. Enjoy! I know I will!
Side Note: If anyone wants any help with their Wordpress upgrade please give me a shout! Or if you just want to know if a certain theme or plugin works drop me a comment!

Supporting Commenter’s
This morning I was looking at my Wordpress comments and I only just realized that Wordpress shoves in a “nofollow” into the website link put in by commenter’s. Disgusted I loaded up Google and did abit of searching on the topic, I then found the No NoFollow community which basically believes in allowing a “follow” tag for commenter’s website’s! There is a lovely list of plugins you can use to disable the “nofollow” tag in Wordpress links all listed here. So commenter’s rejoice, following is happening!
