Symantec’s latest February report on spam shows that no longer is the United States the top source of spam, the trend has shifted and now the EU is! Reasons for this are probably a growing increase in broadband and with an increase of users and increase of spam obviously! The United States have now been shoved down to number two as a source of spam which I’m sure they are devastated about!
The source of spam emails according to the report notes is a majority of the time from compromised PCs elsewhere in the world so the “true” source of spam is hard to determine. Still though, the EU being at the top show’s something doesn’t it?
Europe also has more spam being sent than actual emails! The United States still has more actual emails being sent than spam.
It’s madness! If you want to read the whole report, which is worth a read you can check it out here!

Anyone else notice this strange spam that Askimet is successfully blocking, it has to be the oddest I have ever seen due to the fact that it doesn’t seem to actually be anything but an annoyance! They word it differently but its always like: “I loved your post however I found it hard to understand.” I got seven of these spam today! SEVEN!
So many or what? Weird though, different IP’s.. Some have website links, others don’t. They just don’t seem to have a point. Anyone figure them out yet?

So I was just browsing around the internet today, as one does when I decided to check the Askimet caught spam! Another spammer today, this comment had about no joke 30 links on it! Like seriously, they expect to get spam comments through with 30 links! This obviously verifies to me that spammers are the stupidest people you will ever meet! 90% of blogs have spam protection now! At least give your spam a chance of getting through by not putting so many links in it! Put up a small battle at least, its far too easy for me at the moment.. Not one spam comment has gotten through since I set the blog up! However I am interested to know how you are getting around my “Did you pass Math” plugin. It might be time to change to a CAPTCHA image. Either way, just thought I’d point out today, spammers are incredibly stupid!

Well, I decided I’d do something interesting today and setup a Page of Shame, listing all the IP’s of those who try or do spam me! This is of course to match the new Comment Policy, that none of your regular readers don’t have to worry about at all! Anyway, no sooner had I put up the Comment Policy and was thinking about what I should put in the Page of Shame as a place holder than two spam comments got caught by Askimet! So two IP’s up there for people to enjoy! Interesting and fun way to handle spam hey?
Comments on what people think of this idea would be appreciated!
