Ok first things first, I know your probably going Sims? What the hell Sean? That’s a crap game! Up to two days ago I would have agreed with you and laughed of the thought of actually playing it for more than a few minutes to kill someone in the game via starvation / fire! 
But hear me out here, this game sold one million copies in its first ten days of being on sale! Fanatics hey? You have to think how people could be that fanatic about a game that can’t be much different than Sims 1.
The Sims has spawned five expansions, deluxe, console and online versions, and has been translated into 17 languages around the world.
“Today this game, The Sims, has evolved to become the world’s most successful PC game and a global multi-platform success. The Sims’ incredible appeal among teens and young adults, and especially among female players, has broken all the old established rules about video games,” he added. An estimated 60 per cent of The Sims players are female, according to EA’s data.
I for one have figured it out! The game is honestly, seriously addicting! Sure you can cheat and give yourself loads of money, but when you don’t do that. You actually start to run each Sim’s life through your head as your playing. Making sure they reach their next goal. Getting pissed off at them when they get too demanding.
As for game design, the way they created personality’s is actually amazing. I created my family and without giving details on who does what, we all have the same habits in real life! Just from setting a star sign and a tiny bit of encouraging into certain areas at the start of the game! Who would have known? The graphics and gameplay are acceptable to say the least. But what really makes it is the personality’s and the expansion packs, you can’t feel any better than knowing you now have new items!
Of course the expansion packs do have a gimmicky side to them as well, Sims Seasons for instance, I have to buy an expansion pack to make it Christmas?
Then you have the expansion packs that are really targeted at girls; Sims 2: H&M Fashion Stuff. But as we know, female players are their main audience so they are obviously being smart there, no point on bringing gun’s into it!
So for those of you who still think the Sims is a really stupid game, actually get a lend of it from someone, install it and give it an hour! Tell me then what you think!
