Fedora Core 9 [Codename Sulphur]’s first Alpha release was today announced on the Fedora mailing list! The alpha release is the first opportunity for the community to get involved with testing the next upgrade of Fedora!
You can download the first Alpha release from the Fedora website and of course from bittorent!
Some of what is included in Fedora 9 alpha are:
- GNOME 2.21 Development Release
- KDE 4.0
- Firefox 3 Beta 2
- Support for resizing ext2, ext3 and NTFS partitions during install
- Support for creating and installing to encrypted filesystems
- PackageKit
- Kernel 2.6.24
The final release of Fedora 9 is meant to happen in late April, the beta release is expected to happen right after "Feature Freeze" sometime in March.

Version 3.2 has now been released and you can download it here! Have to say I’m really impressed with Finbarr and the team on this release. I previously interviewed Finbarr Brady which you can read here, however on to what this release contains!
- A Send button - Works a charm, now when I click enter by mistake a message doesn’t send, unless of course I want it to then I can re-enable it in JSMSPreferences.
- Support for Section Dividers in Phone Book - You can now add little micro groups like “Friends” “Work” etc. and your numbers will be organized through this!
- Menubar - Now we have Copy/Cut/Paste options for those of you who don’t know the control keys off by heart! A tools menu, for managing the phone book and what not! And a help menu!
- Lastly, Update Checker - JSMS will now silently check if new releases are available! Handy to say the least! Updates can also be forced manually!
So go download it! Alot of work has obviously been put into this release, the only thing I feel JSMS needs now is a graphical phone book editor, instead of having to do everything via Notepad!
