You’ll never meet worse fanboy’s than Mac fanboy’s. Well okay, you could get those creepy Star Trek ones that speak the language, but seriously.. Mac fanboy’s take it to a whole new level!

Now you can buy a t-shirt for $17 that supports Steve Jobs for the president of American in 2012. I seriously hope that the person who thought up making this t-shirt only did it to get some money of the Mac fanboy’s, but more than likely its a Mac fanboy too.. Do they get any crazier?

Transform Windows To Look Like A Mac

On Monday I tried to install Mac OSX onto my computer. A Dell Dimension 3100, needless to say it didn’t work out, so still wanting the sleek look of Mac I had a look around at what programs where available!

There are countless Dock programs and skinning programs for Windows XP. Stardock and Windows Blinds are just two examples, however installing all these programs individually can be a pain [aswell as using up lots of ram] and you really don’t get the whole Mac effect. Ten minutes of Google later I found exactly what I was looking for!

FlyakiteOSX styles your XP machine to look exactly like it’s running Mac OSX. Infact, you could probably get away with lying to people and saying your running OSX. Best of all it’s free!

The installer creats a Restore Point for you incase you no longer want your computer looking like a Mac but also install’s the Mac OSX skin, a dockbar and just overall gives you the look and feel of a Mac!

The dock bar even replaces the taskbar and makes it look like the real deal!

The desktop gets totally changed with the normal windows taskbar being moved to the top and skinned!

Even the login window as you can see above is changed!

Overall this is one of the best programs I have seen in a while, no problem with install, computer running fast, [Have 1gig ram] and overall just looks brilliant!

Trillian for Mac, and Macs Freeze?

Surprised to see that as a title I bet! True I rarely write Mac News, only really liking the Mac Book Pro. Don’t get me started on iMacs! But we have three interesting pieces of news so here you are fanboys

Trillian will be coming to Mac soon! Of course it will be minimal compared to Trillian for Windows for a while, but still, nice to see something decide to go Mac! Read more here.

Here is another Apple fanboy! Has a whole room full of Macs, he puts all you other fanboys to shame!

The new iMacs apparently freeze alot. Didn’t the old ones too? Whats the big deal? Windows gets virus’s. Mac freezes for indefinite amounts of time. Linux is too complicated for the average user but perfect!

Defcon - Free Play!

Defcon

Defcon is the latest release from game developer Introversion and places you in power of that lovely shiny red button while being safe in a nuclear bunker yourself! You have radar bases to scan the sky, airfields ready to arm and launch your fighter planes into the sky, but ontop of that, missile silos that either attack or defend, submarines, carriers and battleships all to fight in the sea! Certainly Defcon is one wild game, defiantly worthy of a review even if you have to pay out the whooping €17.40 for the full game. However, from 6pm on August 24th - 6pm on August 27th [Both times GMT] Defcon will be allowing everyone to try the full game out for free! All usual demo restrictions are going to be lifted and like magic, everyone can play! So head on over to the website, download the demo and get ready for the preview weekend!

JSMS - Webtext, without the website!

Since MultiText closed down, which is a damn shame. JSMS is out, it is made by Finbarr Brady. Who worked on Multitext. It is a much better application considering it is cross platform! Thats right, it works on Windows, Linux and Mac. All you need is the latest version of Java. Really anything above 1.5 . Screenshot of the interface here:

As you can see its lovely and simple! It has some great features as well, for instance if you put your mouse over the message count it will show you the last message you sent, group texting and auto downloading of your contacts from Meteor/O2/Vodafone website. The fact that it is cross platform really sells it to me, aswell as it being Open source! I’m running it under Ubuntu at the moment and not a single issue! Everyone should head over and get it, give those websites a break, they are too slow to load anyway!

Convert DVD to MP4, AVI or OGM

HandBrake

Handbrake isn’t exactly new on the market but I thought I would do a post on it anyway, because it seems that at least twice a week I have people asking me how to convert a DVD to watch on their iPod, Computer etc. etc.

Handbrake is the solution! An open source, multiplatform, multithreaded DVD to MPEG-4 converter. It can output your DVD into MP4, AVI or OGM formats, and can take DVD’s from any DVD-like source: VIDEO_TS folder, DVD image or a real DVD. It supports PAL and NTSC and best of all, its free! [Just thought i’d point that out] It also has AppleTV and PS3 support. Could you ask for more? I don’t think so!

Note: This does work on Ubuntu, why people think it wouldn’t I’m not sure!
