Nearly wrote 11-02-07 there, it always takes me a while to get back on track with the year!
I’ve been interested in making a game for a while, eventually made a text based online game and then got rid of it, but my next project will be graphic based, and the Game Programming wiki will help me!
Also, with another new version of Wordpress out don’t forget there is a plugin to Auto upgrade which solves all those problems of what plugin’s was I using?
Fedora Core 9 [Codename Sulphur]’s first Alpha release was today announced on the Fedora mailing list! The alpha release is the first opportunity for the community to get involved with testing the next upgrade of Fedora!
You can download the first Alpha release from the Fedora website and of course from bittorent!
Some of what is included in Fedora 9 alpha are:
GNOME 2.21 Development Release
KDE 4.0
Firefox 3 Beta 2
Support for resizing ext2, ext3 and NTFS partitions during install
Support for creating and installing to encrypted filesystems
PackageKit
Kernel 2.6.24
The final release of Fedora 9 is meant to happen in late April, the beta release is expected to happen right after "Feature Freeze" sometime in March.
The popular lightweight bittorrent client “Transmission” is now Ubuntu’s default client and is replacing the GNOME Bittorrent client that Ubuntu has used up to now! This change will be in full effect when Ubuntu 8.04 comes out which is expected in April 2008.
Transmission is available for all machines and operating systems except Microsoft Windows. It’s very like Ubuntu as it focus’s on being lightweight but includes all the features you need!
As the Transmission team themselves say:
Transmission is a fast, easy, and free multi-platform BitTorrent client with a focus on being lightweight yet feature-filled.
If your running Mac OSX or any linux distribution it’s worth checking out and you can find it here!
This would have to be either the OpenMoko or the Qtopia Greenphone both are open source and built on a linux framework. More importantly if you get one you can develop your own appliactions for it. Since the Qtopia Greenphone is now sold out and it doesn’t look like it’s coming back anytime soon I believe I will be going with the OpenMoko once it hits Stage 2 and has Wi-fi. How I long for a phone with Wi-fi!!
Skype 2.0 for Linux is out. Video calling at last I may say! Not that I use video calling much on skype, I find it makes the call quality lower. Time to upgrade the internet line!
Other than having video there has been a number of improvements made to Skype including a large amount of bug fixes and a few new options. You can read about all of them in the change log here.
Of course the main thing is that it can be downloaded here! Enjoy everyone!
Is it really the Google Operating System? Nope! What the hell is it then? Well gOS is essentially what I imagine the Google Operating System would be!
As you can see, the base system is exactly as you’d imagine Google Operating System to be. Lots of big easy buttons for everyone, and links to anything they own!
In this screen shot you can see the Gmail icon, aswell as a list of the standard applications included!
As a Linux distribution it however cannot play flash in the browser without you going through a couple of terminal commands to install a plugin. I really think this is a shame as it really would be the Google Operating System with that!
Their main website is over here, and of course you can download it here via bittorrent!
One thing I noticed linux does not have, is a decent SVN client without you having to go through loads of terminal! That is until I found kdesvn! Don’t worry GNOME users, it works on GNOME perfectly fine! The project website is over here, or for Ubuntu users:
sudo apt-get install kdesvn
Could it get any simplier than that? The features, anything you expect of a standard SVN client, without all the dazzle effects!
Firstly, via Wired a image of the linux file system see it here!
Next an interesting one, the Simpsons new series [I’m amazed that they still have something to do an episode on…] will pick up where from the movie started off! You can see the new intro here.
