I am very late on picking up that my Google PageRank is zero, but I figured I’d put a post up anyway!
I’d like to firstly thank all who made this possible,
Servage.net - For hosting my blog. Payperpost - For more than likely being the cause. Damien Mulley - Just because he need’s to be in here. A blog post isn’t a blog post unless you mention him! Ken McGuire - Ken started me blogging so I can freely blame him for all of this commotion, also if you don’t like one of my posts, he’s the guy to blame! Google - Of course the big bad in this situation, I won’t get slapped on the wrist for using Adsense but for using anything else its “Bad Sean“. Now there is some nice marketing for Adsense!
I have to admit I’m not upset at all! This gave me two good things. One; A blog post: I was pretty stuck for one this morning and Two; A reason to rant and I do love ranting!
I will continue to use adverts and I don’t see how this affects me at all, the good old page rank bar is no longer what it was, a status symbol amongst website’s to show how well your doing, now its just another “It’s there..” of having a blog.
Like, search engines are 15% [or so] of my traffic, or there about’s and I don’t get any decent searches from Google anyway, it’s all people searching for Natalia Tena who seem to be directed here! Proving the point that I didn’t make, search engines aren’t that good at all! My subscribers are who I really care about!
So once again thanks to everyone who made this possible and mainly Google!
Is it really the Google Operating System? Nope! What the hell is it then? Well gOS is essentially what I imagine the Google Operating System would be!
As you can see, the base system is exactly as you’d imagine Google Operating System to be. Lots of big easy buttons for everyone, and links to anything they own!
In this screen shot you can see the Gmail icon, aswell as a list of the standard applications included!
As a Linux distribution it however cannot play flash in the browser without you going through a couple of terminal commands to install a plugin. I really think this is a shame as it really would be the Google Operating System with that!
Their main website is over here, and of course you can download it here via bittorrent!
So we all talked about it, we speculated. Certain people were right. But it’s not happening. Via Wall Street Journal:
Google Inc. announced today an ambitious alliance with 33 handset makers, wireless carriers and other technology companies to create low-cost mobile phones based on “open” technology standards.
The Mountain View, Calif., Internet company said the new cellphone technology it is creating with its partners – which it calls Android – would enable faster development of innovative cellphone features. The platform includes several layers of software for phones, including an operating system, a user interface and applications.
Give it ten years! Then maybe Google will turn hardware!
An interesting one via Google Blogoscoped is Gmail Version 2! Apparently there is a backend Javascript rewrite, making Gmail faster than ever! The new version also hopes to improve contact management. Here are some screenshots, as we all love inside views!
Reading Email, nothing seems to have changed here!
New contacts management system. Reminds me of Outlook!
Another picture of the new contacts management system, you have to admit, it is looking good!
Adding a picture to a contact now has the option of adding a picture straight from Picassa. Google integration at its finest!
Lastly, the more actions menu seems to have a new option, “Filter Messages like these”.
Overall version two is looking good, glad to see its still in Beta though! Google can only improve on it!
Well as you’ve heard, Google did infact purchase Jaiku! Honestly, I did not see this one coming! I just saw Jaiku as being.. well, Jaiku! But there you have it Google now own another company!
So what will come from this?
Hopefully it will be free to update Jaiku! But if that does happen I see it happening in the US first. Ireland will be next to last! I’d love to see Jaiku eventually port up with Google Talk too, make the bot more stable. On the more obvious of sides Twitter will never be as stable as Jaiku now! Who see’s Yahoo picking up Twitter?
Overall this should be a fun one to watch! Keep your eyes peeled!
Linkage for a Friday, finally the weekend! Hope you like the new Linkage picture, I though the Linkage posts were getting a bit bare without an image when I usually try to get one in!
While working at Absolute I did alot of testing with spam filters, all free, didn’t want to blow money on something that might not be great! Six months of testing, Six different free poducts and none were as good as Gmail. Thats right, use Gmail as a spam filter for your domain, now I know what your saying is that why not just use Gmail on your domain? Well for existing setups it isn’t exactly great. Usually on my email I would get around 200 - 500 spam messages a day. Guess how many Gmail caught, every single one. No joke! Now the only downside to this is that sometimes it can take up to 20mins for an email to come through. However all and all its worth it. So if you want a Free spam filter, sign up to gmail and add your email!
Are you a Linux user? Or maybe just a windows user who wants to support an Open Source application? Then this is what your looking for! Since Google have pretty much left us [the Linux community] out with the Gmail notifier, as well as other Google software, Gmail notify is a Linux alternative of Gmail Notify written in Python. It works just as well as the official one, and really has all the same features, what else could you add hey?
If you are running Ubuntu it can be installed as simply as putting the following into the terminal:
sudo apt-get install gmail-notify
For other users, Windows and any other distro of Linux, you can download from the Sourceforge project page located here!
Its now 2am GMT. And this is on Google ‘Tech’ news, which of late I have realised has become more and more slow to pick up on news. Since 11am GMT its been all around the blogosphere of what caused Skype’s outage. Yet, it takes Google News fifteen hours to get the story! Certainly not breaking news anymore! In my opinion I expect more from Google, you’d expect Google to have the breaking news, the first to pick it up! But no, as I said it takes fifteen hours! Amazing.. Truely!
