Ok, it’s the sixth of June! It’s been four months since I’ve had internet and wow does the internet move fast, four months seems like over a year. I feel like I’ve missed so much! So today I’m going to try to get back into this, it’s going to be a slow start until I get a constant internet supply but at least it’s something! Here’s to summer blogging!

I was wondering earlier today how much www.seanmcn.com made in 2007, just as I was thinking what would be a nice fun post to start of 2007 on, I then realised that I didn’t know, I remembered some sponsered links here and there but wasn’t sure of the exact figures! So here is how much Seanmcn.com made during 2007. Figures are in dollars because that’s what I was paid in!
Google Adsense: $5.46 [Unclaimed]
Sponsored Links: $100 [Claimed and spent!]
TLA: $0 [Never got it to work..]
PayPerPost: $20 [Claimed and spent!]
Donations: $0
As you can see the big bringer in of money was sponsored links, donations brought in nothing. Even though that’s the most widespread ad, asking you to buy me a coffee under every single post!
Overall during 2007 blogging quiet frequently and not really optomising adverts I made: $125.46 not bad when you really think about it! Let’s hope that in 2008 I can make that bigger!

Tomorrow I will be teaching student’s in the CBS Secondary IT Club how to blog. Of course this will be done through a Wordpress Mu installation, it will be interesting to see how many will actually continue to blog after two / three classes.

We all have blogging habits, some are good and some are just damn stupid or stuck from when you started off. Roughly today I will have been blogging on and off for one year. Lets have a look at a few of my past habits and my present habits!
Past Habits:
- On the fly posting - This was actually up until pretty recently, I’d just post whenever I found something. This is possibly one of the worst habits you can get into. For instance I’d have six posts one day, one post the next day, no posts the day after and so on and so forth. Break this habit if your into it and that’s happening to you, use scheduled posting instead!
- Adverts Everywhere - At the start of blogging I had adverts all over the place! Ad optimization at its finest, just shove it in their face. I have currently don’t have any adverts, but when I decide to put some up you’ll see I have learnt from this!
- Bad Blog Design - This is always a way to stop users from frequently coming back to your blog.. Infact I remember my first design now. It was a default blogger theme changed to all black with white text and red links. First walk through Ken gave me too on changing a theme!
Present Habits:
- Irregular Weekend Posting - This one is probably my biggest problem at current, sometimes you see them sometimes you don’t. I should really just decide on if I will do weekend posts or not!
- Obsession with stats - This is my biggest time waster, I’m currently cutting down on the time I spend staring at my Mint screen though!
- Pictures for all posts - This isn’t that bad of a habit in my opinion as it makes the blog look a good deal more interesting however what is ridiculous is the fact that I will sometimes spend more time looking for a picture for an article than actually writing the article itself!
Overall I don’t think I’m doing too bad! Does anyone else care to share their blogging habits?

Windows Live Writer is out of beta and into “Windows Live Writer 2008“. No really amazing new features apart from easier Windows Live Spaces creation. Hopefully some interesting plugins will come out for it on the Wordpress side now! Overall I’m doing all my blogging from Windows Live Writer so I’m happy to see this, who would have known I liked blogging from a program more than the Admin Control Panel!

Browsing the Internet as one does I was looking for blogging events in Ireland, surprise surprise! BlogTalk will this year be held in Cork. I see Tom Raftery is Co-Chair. Nice to see somebody I know on the committee list! Overall just wanted to raise awareness with this post and see if anyone else was planning to go. I’m 99% confirming myself!

It’s not often we see a piece of blogging software as unique as Airpress! Based on the Adobe AIR framework its quiet an impressive program, but once again we run into this whole Wordpress 2.3 tagging situation! Still a beautifully designed program though, test it to see the beauty!

So the most recent explosion around the blogosphere is Mr. John Burns from Monster.ie acting like any other “suit” in any other big company and threatening legal action to not only Michele but Tom too! Now imagine that! Stupidity at its finest! Oh, but if that wasn’t enough, John Burns from Monster.ie who obviously doesn’t understand the terrifying concept of “he fucked up, and bad” leaves Tom a nice little voicemail right here of how he finds it extremely irresponsible for Tom to put his details on his blog and quote:
take down what you have put up about me, remove my name and replace it with somebody else’s immediately… I will definitely be taking this forward
Oh that’s right, blame someone else for the spam I sent out! Happy days ahead for this guy! I have to wonder which lawyer this guy got legal advice off!
I spam you, you tell people, I sue you.
I personally think ^ that is what he is trying to say! Very bullyish!
Of course its obvious here that John Burns also doesn’t understand the power of the blogosphere! If he had shut up and perhaps made a nice solution it would not have been so big of a thing, but now.. well, good luck fighting the Google search results lets just hope your next employer doesn’t Google your name!
