Broadband
World Politics Review” had an interesting article on Saturday, comparing the broadband speeds and prices across the globe. I’d just like to take a few minutes in this post to address the issue in Ireland in comparison to the rest of the world!

Out of thirty countries we have the 24th fastest broadband. With countries like UK, France and Germany far ahead of us. Kinda mad no? UK is right beside us, but is three places up. France which is again in Europe so relevantly close has the 4th fastest broadband.

BUT if we look at costs, we have the 9th most expensive broadband! France hit in again at the 4th cheapest. UK as the 12th most expensive.

Looking at these charts you can really see that broadband in Ireland seriously needs to be improved on, not only expanding it so everyone has it, but increasing speeds and lowering prices. I guess the only thing we can hope for is that more ISP’s come. But do you think thats going to happen anytime soon? ;)

    THANKS FOR PUTTING A POST.
The broadband issue really is becoming a bit of a joke at this stage. I had our local fixed wireless operator around again yesterday hunting for a signal… but to no avail. They said that I’m in one of the only black spots in the whole of West Cork now… lucky me!Oh well… guess I’ll have to struggle on with the clunky and expensive ISDN for now.In terms of boosting productivity access to broadband comes in a very distant second to keeping the kids happily engaged. The playhouse will remain a playhouse for the foreseeable future.
