Don’t get me wrong, I love Basecamp, I’d really love to use it. But I just can’t afford to! I work on multiple projects over the internet alot with other people and Basecamp would be the perfect option for us. But we would need the Plus version, which is $49 per/month. Now I wouldn’t mind paying $49 per/month if it was for an unlimited amount of projects, but thats only for thirty! Which works out as way too much for me, a student! So I think the only solution is that Google buys Basecamp and makes it free!
I actually don’t see why they haven’t bought Basecamp yet, online project managment isn’t something they have a product of! It would be nice to see them expand into it also! Basecamp claim to have over a million people signed up, has it hit Google’s eye yet?
Digg it!
We sell a similar web-based software called OnStage that is priced a little bit cheaper, but is probably still more than you are looking to pay. Would you really be interested in an ad-supported, free version, similar to gmail? I don’t see why the message section could not display text ads along the side but I question if the business community (and their clients) would be willing to put up with that?
John, I think a good majority of people would be interested in an ad-supported free version! Also it would benefit you setting one up as more people would sign up, realize how good your program is and want to get rid of the ads. I would definately use a free ad-supported version! I also think there is enough of a market out there to make it worthwhile for companies like OnStage to do it!
Sean, You do have a point. After all, that is the model that Google uses with gmail: free version has ads or companies can pay for the ad-free version with more storage.
Stay tuned, you may see an ad-support version of OnStage very soon!!
Would love to see it John! Let me know if you go ahead with it!
Sean,
We just launched our free, ad-supported version of OnStage. You can sign up here.
Amazing John, Post coming on this as we speak!
