I went to see the new Harry Potter movie today, Order of the Phoenix I’m sure you’ll know! First thing I’ll say is that I arrived in the cinema half an hour early with my tickets already ready and the queue was at the ticket office. If you know Kilkenny cinema thats pretty bad. They started letting people in at twenty to eight, which was nice and early so I wasn’t waiting around for a long time, even though the queues where huge it wasn’t sold out, there was still a good fifty seats left in the theathre, which is suprising as today is the first night of it showing, it may not be the first show but still.. So on to what I thought of the movie.
Natalia Tena
The first thing I’ll say is Natalia Tena who played Tonks played an amazing part, though little we saw of her, I hope she gets more screentime in the next movie Half Blood Prince.

Overall from being a book addict I have to say that the movie missed alot, which isn’t suprising but I always have to save it. A few things did really annoy me though which I will list out here:

  • Cho did not rat out the meeting place of Dumbledores Army, it was her friend Maritta.
  • Professor Umbridge in the books did not use Veritaserum on every single student during interviews, she only used it on Harry. How would the other members of the DA not ratted out where the place was if she did?
  • At the beggining with Dudley in the playground its wrong, Dudley’s friends were not there when him and Harry started rowing, why change that and draw it out longer?
  • Harry did not hand over the prophecy to Lucius, if he did Lucius would have instantly Disapparated, why would he stand around like a twit? Certainly did make for a good scene of Sirus punching him though..

That’s all I can think of on points that they changed at the moment. Parts I loved about the movie were,

  • When Harry, Hermoine and Ron are talking about Cho in the common room after Harry and Cho kissed, props to the director, this scene felt so real and natural it really amazed me..
  • When Harry is possessed by Voldemort at the end of the movie, truely amazing the way they portrayed it, really showed the pain and agony of it all.
  • Umbridge, she played her character perfectly and they did a great job picking her to play the role!
  • The final fight at the end of the movie between the Order of The Phoenix and the Death Eaters, truely amazing special effects here! I’ll admit this was my favorite part of the movie..
  • Dumbledore escaping the ministry in his office, they changed this bit but not too badly, it certainly was amazing the way he went out in flames with the Phoenix.

Parts I didn’t like about the movie:

  • Kreacher, not how I imagined him at all, thought he would be more upfront with the insulting.
  • Miss Figg, this one was a big “what the hell” to me. She really didn’t fit the part of what I thought she would look like!

As you can see, there wasn’t much of the movie I didn’t like, leaving out when I cringed at them leaving out parts, but thats expected, I am a book fan! For anyone who just watches the movies though I think it will be an amazing expierence, Order of the Phoenix was my least favorite book as I think Jk Rowling dragged it out abit too much, the movie is damn close to being better than the book! More than anything I loved the special effects and odd bits of humour, they really made the movie. I would like to congratulate personally David Yates, he did an amazing job directing it and there was some scenes that just seemed amazingly real, I will be definatley going to watch more of his movies! I’m also truely glad that he is the director of “Half Blood Prince”! Either way its a must see for all! :D
