Nice title hey? Well I sorta did get mugged. More like robbed. Heres the story.
I was sitting outside Dunnes on Kieran street up against one of the pillars, I was texting my friend jo so had my phone held lightly at the end on my knee. Two scumbags were walking down the path and one grabbed my phone and said thanks, and then walked off towards the entrance to Dunnes. Thinking they were joking I asked for it back, the guy then said "Nope" and walked off laughing, so thinking fuck this that phone is only two weeks old and they can’t be serious I ran after them, they went into the entrance to Dunnes, I then said to the guy who had my phone "listen, can I please have my phone back?" thinking being nice is the way to go and that they can still only be messing around. He then turns around and punches me in the face, I got pretty confused at this point, nose started to bleed and what not, but hadn’t fallen to the ground so not thinking clearly and just wanting my phone back I picked up my glasses, which had been knocked off and followed them again, around the centre of Dunnes [they were heading for the other door] I asked for it back again. The guy then turned and went to hit me again, so i started walking backwards. He then said "Your going to let me have this, and get away with it", this is about the stage I finally copped on that they were serious. Panicing i looked around for security but couldn’t find any, I walked back to my friends actually thinking at this stage that I was fucked. My friends suggested going to security so I walked up to the Security Monitor place and there was a guy there now, I told him that the two lads had taken my phone and he said he thought something was going on but wasn’t sure. So off the Security Guard went outside into the carpark, he then located somehow the two guys girlfriends and asked one of us to follow them, one of the lads was up for it but by this stage something was happening.. I wasn’t really paying attention here, anyway, I was then standing outside Dunnes in the carpark as the security guy had ran off somewhere and said he’d be back when I was approached by another Security officer. He said they had got the guy, and they have my phone, so off up to the cop car I went, which was at one of the entrances to the carpark, sure enough they had caught the guy. I actually at first couldn’t remember who hit me or took my phone. CCTV helped with this of course, the cop who was asking me for my details was really nice and I got my phone back [They had thrown it in a bush when caught]. I then had to identify the guy on CCTV, who was the guy they had caught, amazingly. The other guy ran off somewhere, no idea where.. So then I got a call of parents as the cops had rang them asking for me to make a statement, I wasn’t sure if I should make one or not, scared of the outcome if the guy got off. But the thought of him just doing that to someone else kind of pushed me to do it! So I went up to the police station and made my statement. The guy is being held for court tommorow, and then will be released on bail till next Tuesday [ Or so I was told.. I’m not really sure]. He was from Waterford and I had never seen him in my life. Either way, he’s not getting away with it. He’s being charged with Assault and Theft.
And that was my fun day!
However I would like to thank, the security in Dunnes, The Gardai for quick response and those guys girlfriends for actually helping!
Digg it!
Woo!! go Seán! that’s the spirit!
Thanks Evan!
Are we having fun yet?
Amazingly, no. I do feel better knowing he will be charged though!
Thought something was up when I was driving through, actually drove around you by pure chance in the van when you were making the statement, caught a look at the guy in the back seat, ’scumbag’ was the first word that popped into my head. Good to hear you made a statement though, sick of seeing people get away with that kinda thing.
Yeah, the thought of them getting away with it just sickened me, free to go of and do it again and maybe not get arrested. Shame I couldn’t have the CCTV footage though, would have made a good video post!
